Christella
Professional Singer/Songwriter, Producer, Vocal Arranger, Composer and Keyboardist.

I am a Bretton Hall graduate and a musical director, composer, lyricist, vocalist, keyboard player, percussionist, workshop facilitator and musical mentor with a 20-year track record, which was recognised in 2013 with a Runner’s Up award on The Arts Foundation Fellowship Programme. I combine formal training with a background in developing musicians and singers and am the founder of Caution Collective.

I have worked across popular musical genres nationally and internationally, supporting and performing with luminaries including Martha Reeves, Jamiroqui, Peabo Bryson, Billy Paul, Candi Staton, Denise Pearson, Sting, Ricardo Ajorna, Glen Scott, Brenda Holloway, Kofi, Beverley Knight, Kim Weston, Eric Bibb, Tom Jones and many more.

As a Greek Cypriot, I was immersed early in Rembetika, a highly vocalised form of music, in which singing in harmony is a defining feature. My ability to harmonise led me to Geraldine Connor’s, Carnival Messiah, as performer, member of the vocalist selection panel and one of only 3 cast members to represent Carnival Messiah in Trinidad. I have worked regularly with one of Trinidad’s most respected and prolific singer/song-writers, Ella Andall, as singer, vocal arranger, producer, musician and composer. During this process I worked closely with Ella’s Producer Kenny Phillips, founder of KMP Records and WACK Radio in Trinidad and Tobago.

In 2004 I joined Ella Andall’s trans-Caribbean tour performing for Nelson Mandela. I went on to form Caution Collective in 2007, comprising accomplished musicians and singers based in and around Chapeltown and Harehills in Leeds, many from the original cast of Carnival Messiah. We also feature guest artists with national and international profiles; to date these include Natalie Duncan, Adam Taylor, Onita Boone and Denise Pearson.

I have worked alongside Phoenix Dance founder, David Hamilton; composed for First Cut commissioned by WYP and for Misrepresented People at Nottingham Playhouse. In 2017 I composed and arranged music to accompany a performance of two poems by Queen’s Gold Medal winner, Imtiaz Dharker, commissioned by Alchemy for Sacred Sounds. Most recently I worked with world renowned Choreographer, Sharon Watson and composed the soundtrack for Phoenix Dance Theatre’s multi-award winning performance and film Windrush (BBC).

In 2019 I was chosen by Choir director Glen Scott to join an elite group of vocalists to sing on the Sting and Kate Prince- West End production of Message in a Bottle at Kensal town Studios-This opportunity led me to Sing backing vocals for Latin America’s most successful artist of all time, Ricardo Ajorna. I was also invited to feature on his Abbey Road Studio acoustic live recording.

Currently I am musical director for the Rob Green Project whose EP I Co-produced in 2016 that went to No 3 in the R&B iTunes charts. Rob Green has successfully performed and toured on the Whitney Houston 2020 hologram tour, has a debut single –Life Goes On released on the 3 April 2020. He is currently in the process of completing his album with Producer Glen Scott of which I have penned and worked on several tracks, touring in 2021.
